Italian community takes over in Adelaide as the Azzurri claim Euro 2020 title

The Italian community in Adelaide has gone wild this morning after Italy defeated England on penalties in the Euro 2020 decider at Wembley.

7.2% of Adelaide's population is of Italian ancestry; the equal-highest represented background from Europe with German.

Those within the Italian community also founded several local clubs in South Australia's NPL, including Adelaide City, Adelaide Blue Eagles, Campbelltown City and Metro Stars.

Therefore, it was no surprise to see fans of the Azzurri take to the streets of the CBD to rejoice in the triumph.

Fans packed into the Italian Centre on Carrington Street to watch the game unfold, whilst thousands of English fans gathered at Sky City Casino.

The scenes continued with fans dressing the Queen Victoria statue with an Italian flag whilst football fanatics swamped Victoria Park in the city's centre.

Celebrations will most likely continue for the next few days as the Italian community has cause to celebrate after seeing many relatives back home struggle in the wake of the pandemic.
